Jammu & Kashmir Cloudburst
Current Issue: A Trail of Destruction
Jammu and Kashmir has been left reeling after a series of freak weather events struck over the weekend. The region experienced sudden cloudbursts, intense hailstorms, and landslides—especially in the Ramban district—leading to tragic loss of life and widespread damage. Five people are feared dead, and hundreds remain stranded, awaiting urgent rescue and relief.
The Problem: Nature’s Unpredictable Fury
Over a 48-hour period, the region was battered by lightning, gusty winds, hailstorms, and even unseasonal snowfall.
Apple orchards in both north and south Kashmir were severely damaged by heavy hail.
Cloudbursts triggered flash floods and multiple landslides, causing blockades at five major points on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway.
The debris from the landslides destroyed vital infrastructure and disrupted connectivity between the Kashmir valley and Jammu division.
