Fyunli Kauthig 2021 ‘जल जंगल जमीन बचौला, आपदा से सुरक्षित बणौला’ |
Fyunli Kauthig is an auspicious day of festivities that we celebrate with the women associated with us. It is our way to thank the community who stand tall with us, just like the mighty Himalayas disaster after disaster. In Uttarakhand’s mountain terrain, it is the women who make the backbone of rural economy. Sewa International bows down to these women toiling in the fields, raising the children, managing the households, livestock and still finding a way to give back to the community its essence of life and joy. The festival of Fyunli Kauthig which is celebrated on the occasion of International Women’s Day every year on 8th March since 2016 in Uttarakhand by the Sewa family is to acknowledge their hardships and cherish their success. The purpose of organizing first Fyunli Kauthig in 2016 was to create a platform for the women working with us, to get inspired to bring the change that their generations dream of.This time, the concept will be driven by the women, who no longer would need to be on the passenger seat and will celebrate with each other while organizing this event. In the last 5 years, the event has seen new highs, with eminent personalities, social workers, sportspersons and environmentalists attending the event along with the participation of over 9 thousand women from the remotest locations in mountains. | 2020 was engulfed in a pandemic that spread across the world, shrinking the population, and forcing us to live with a long list of restrictions. While the society was still recovering from coronavirus, this year we saw a disaster unfolding in front of our eyes in Tapovan where we have been working in the sectors of health, livelihoods and agriculture. We lost some of our community members in this disaster and while we are still mourning the tragic incident, to move ahead, we thought of raising a dialogue through discussion pertaining to the vulnerability of the central Himalayan region and its peoples daily lives in this disaster prone region. This year’s theme is ‘जल जंगल जमीन बचौला, आपदा से सुरक्षित बणौला’, which loosely translates to ‘Protect Water, Forest and Land to stay safe from disasters’. Schedule |
