PRAWAH: The Eco Mission

PRAWAH stands for Participatory, Rejuvenation, Afforestation & Waste Management Along with Himalayan Springs. The Project entails waste management and afforestation along the Himalayan springs via promoting public awareness & participation following a landscape approach. PRAWAH is an idyllic journey, which aims to make the Himalayan Springs plastic free with community approach, as PRAWAH believes Together we can reach the Peak with the following objectives -

Cleanliness and Afforestation drive:The drive helps keep locations litter- free while serving as a vital platform to educate and engage local communities in preserving natural heritage. Additionally, these initiatives act as action-oriented advocacy campaigns, encouraging policymakers to prioritise environmental conservation.

Plog for sewa: The plog for sewa initiative focuses on cleanliness of a particular area. This initiative aims towards making the environment clean and green by inculcating the values of Sewa Bhav in the individuals. This eco mission is a collaborative effort involving a total of 280+ women from self-help groups (SHG) and young students from Uttarakhand. Trekking through the rugged mountain terrain, meticulously cleaning up the litter strewn across Kartik Swami Mandir, Tungnath Chopta to the Main Road in Makkumath, these volunteers left no stone unturned in their quest to restore the natural beauty of their beloved Dev Bhoomi.
Door-to-Door waste collection via Prawah Panther-Collection of dry as well as wet waste from homes in Uttarakhand in order to work towards solid waste management. The activity anticipated the participation of approx 191 volunteers with 1205 local households engaged in waste management scraped out of their houses.

Source segregation and Waste Management Training:The improper disposal of garbage in valleys, roadside, rivers and mountains poses significantly environmental risks. Waste management efforts often overlook rural areas, despite over 30 million annual tourists generating more than two-thirds of the state’s waste. To address this, Sewa International launched an initiative focusing on Source Segregation i9n Uttarakhand’s rural households, targeting the rise in single-use plastics. The program reached 1,129 households across 56 villages in Chamoli and Rudraprayag, providing crucial waste segregation training to 106 user groups.

World Environment Day celebration with Qala Kauthig: With focus on the theme of ‘Solution to Plastic Pollution’, Qala Kauthig was celebrated on the World Environment Day. The event highlight was the exhibition set up by school students highlighting their artwork made out of recycled plastic. 300 people attended the event and witnessed various sustainable solutions to plastic pollution.
Street play focusing on environment with a character named Kachrasur- Street play on awareness generation of waste management via prawah panther. With this play, 7 villages were covered and disseminated information.
The beneficiaries impacted are- 7 Villages, 275 Local Household, 1360 Tenants in Guptkashi, 350 Local vendors, 50 Hotels, 8 schools.
