Every year, as the monsoon approaches, fear returns to flood-prone villages — Will we survive this time?
Rising waters destroy homes, wash away essentials, and leave families helpless while help arrives too late. In vulnerable rural communities, floods often strike without warning and without preparation. Women, children, and the elderly face the greatest risk.
Yet, simple preparedness can save lives — if families are equipped in advance.
When villages are prepared, lives are saved.
When families are protected, fear turns into resilience.
Your support ensures that communities are ready before the next flood strikes — safeguarding lives, livelihoods, and futures.
What Is SEWA KAVACH?
SEWA KAVACH is Sewa International’s disaster preparedness initiative designed to protect vulnerable rural families by preparing them before disasters strike.
The initiative focuses on communities that face recurrent and high flood risks, including villages located:
- Near dams and reservoirs (at risk of sudden water release)
- Along riverbanks and floodplains
- In low-lying areas with poor drainage
- In coastal regions vulnerable to cyclones and storm surges
- In hilly and foothill areas prone to flash floods and landslides
- Near drainage channels and nalas
- In forest-adjacent and remote villages
- In informal or unplanned settlements with fragile housing
