Vanvasi Kanya Chhatravas.

Rudrapur (Nainital, Uttranchal)

Vanvasi Kanya Chhatravas is run by the trust Akhil Bharateeya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram. This hostel started in the year 1994 in the month of June, for the tribal girls of the Hilly region. All the inmates belong to the Tharu-Buksa tribe. The purpose of starting this hostel was to instil national social awareness, provide good cultural education to the girls of this tribe.
In the first year, the hostel started with 14 girls, of the hilly region who lived in remote villages. Now the strength of the hostel has gone upto 40. The inmates are provided with free food, clothing, education and residential facility.
Day to day work is done by the girls of the hostel, like cooking, cleaning and decorating, marketing, works regarding Bank and Post office etc. The hostel runs with the principle of self reliance.
Vanvasi Kanya Chhatravas runs few other projects also for the poor and slum dwellers. Balika Vidya Mandir is run to educate students uptil class eight. This school is recoganised by the Education Department. A sewing center is also run for the women of the slums. The final motive of the hostel is to instil confidence in the girls and help them becoming self-reliant. List.
